The History Behind Pure RIB TendersFive years ago, I set out to build the ultimate 24' powerboat. The requirements were varied and demanding. It had to be capable of a 30 mile dash to lunch at an offshore island with friends, the occasional 60-90 mile commute to see customers anywhere in New England, a picnic or cocktail tour with family & friends, and support my family's varied activities on the water. We're active year-round, so it had to legally tow safely behind our mid-sized SUV for winters down South, and fit in a 40' container in case we planned a season in the Caribbean. I inspected every RIB available on the market. Only one stood out for its open ocean performance. The ARC 24'. Originally designed and built for the US Navy by Whitey Russell and his Atlantic RIB Company, the design was the culmination of 20 tank test models, three full scale prototypes, and two decades of leading RIB designs. The ARC became a favorite of Yacht Clubs, Harbormasters, and RIB aficionados. With an update to the deck design, and a high tech approach to the composites, the new PURE 730 was launched based on Whitey's proven hull shape. Concurrently, customers for Gunboats, Swans, Oysters and other mega-yachts were seeking lightweight, high-tech RIBs that could match the comfort and demands of their yachts. PURE Yachting recently launched the PURE 420, 460, 575 & 730 to address this yacht tender niche. PURE now welcomes Whitey Russell back to the RIB industry to run PURE YACHTING. With decades of RIB knowledge and design, Whitey brings exciting plans for two larger models, as well as plans to better address the commercial RIB market. Our line of fuel efficient RIBs will lead you to rethink what will best suit your needs on the water. Peter Johnstone, Partner |
